Dreaming in Hollywood
Remember being asked to do creative writing in High school and the one thing the teacher would emphasis EVERY time was that “I don’t want to see anyone end it with IT WAS ALL A DREAM”?

Of course the reason the teacher said this was because “It was all a dream” is the perfect Deus Ex Machina to solve any problems brought up in a plot without being thought about by the composer. That said, there have been some amazing Movies in the last one hundred years that deal with the concept of dreams.
Some, like “The Wizard of Oz” use a dream to play out a fantasy to teach a moral, “Nightmare on Elm Street” played with our fears of what happens when we sleep, while others like “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” play with the concepts of Memory and dreams. Of course, long before the advent of film, we had Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” show us how demented and abstract our dreams may be, a concept oft-repeated today.
